Chapter 6: Page 10

Sabelle finally noticed the man with the Topaz hair and grew excited. “You got pointy ears like me!”

Codin looked at the pup as she scooted closer to him, a wide grin on her face. He returned her smile. “I do indeed.”

“What are you?”

“I’m a FaieLion.”

Sabelle looked at Oben. “Am I a FaieLion?”

Oben hook his head. “No, Pup, you’re a Lobo.”

“No, I got pointy ears like him.” She pointed at Codin. “You don’t got pointy ears.”

“You’re a FaieWolf, honey.” Codin touched one of her little ears. “The pointy ears come from the Faie, the same with our jewel colored hair.” He picked up her hand and touched his index and middle fingers in the middle of her little palm and made a spark. “Your papa was like my papa, they were Faie, very special Faie.”

“You make sparklies!”

“Yes, I do.” He turned his hand over and held his palm out to her. “Milmar told me you make them too.”

Sabelle touched two fingers to his palm and created a big spark in her excitement. She jerked her hand back when she heard Oben gasp, afraid she might have scared him like Milmar said she had scared Azy. She blinked big eyes at him, waiting, hoping he wouldn’t leave like Azy had.

Zebben flew over to the Lobo and glared at him. “You better hug her or she’ll think she did something bad.”

Oben stared for a moment at the Fairy, in shock over Sabelle creating Silver Moonlight. Renna had confided in him that Yubal had been a Lunar Knight, and Dewi had mentioned… but… With a nod, he picked Sabelle up and kissed her forehead, brushed hair off her face. “It’s okay, Sabelle. Your sparklies surprised me.”

“Milmar said not to make sparklies ‘round folks.”

He kissed her forehead again. “You have a special gift, little Pup, but not everyone will understand it. Your papa had the same gift.” And according to Renna, he had been killed for it. If someone dared try to harm Sabelle, they would come to regret it. He would hunt them down and rip their throats out and that was nothing compared to what Dewi would do. “And sometimes special gifts need to be kept a secret.”

Valdo looked over his shoulder hearing the door to the pub rattle. He would think that the drawn curtains and the closed sign would clue the individual in. “If you like, Oben, I could help you behind the bar. That is, if you wish to open tonight.”

“We’d have to pull in Meria to work the tables, but she’s on a date with Fidgen. And, you’d have to put on your glasses.” Oben kissed Sabelle once more and then sat her back on the bar. Mentioning Valdo’s glasses earned him a glare and a flash of fang. “What?”

“Okay, who ordered the burger?” Widdle flew out from the kitchen carrying the plate. Weddle was in the back being a snot because she got to the plate first. She had heard there was a Fire Fairy out front and she wanted to see if he was cute.

“We did!” Zebben flew over and took the plate from the Forest Fairy, too hungry to wait for her. He then flew it over to Codin who took the plate and placed it on the bar. He sat down cross-legged and impatiently waited for Codin to cut him off his piece of the burger.

“Hey!” Widdle yelped. “That was rude.”

Zebben looked over his shoulder and blinked at the Fairy. A Forest Fairy calling him rude? “You were too slow.”

“I was not.”

“Yes you were. My great, great, great, great, great granny is faster than you.”

“Hmph!” Widdle tossed her leaf green hair over her shoulder, turned her nose in the air and flew back to the kitchen.

“Zebben, there was no need to be rude.” Codin cut off a small chunk of the burger and placed it on the edge of the plate for the Fairy.

“She was rude first.” Zebben grabbed the burger and bit into it, his cheeks puffing out with the huge bite.

Codin shook his head and bit into his burger. Fire Fairies and Forest Fairies never were a good match.
